Kourtney Lofton may not have been much of a sports fan growing up, but she knew one thing - she loved to run.

That love led her to the Brenham High School track team, and on Monday morning it led her back onto the school campus, where she signed a national letter of intent to run track for Houston Baptist University.

“It’s extremely exciting,” said Lofton, who qualified for the Class 4A Region III Championships in May. “I’m ready to go now. As soon as school was out I was ready to go, but I guess I’ll just restart in September for indoor track.”

Lofton will likely run the hurdles at HBU after finishing two spots shy of a state berth in the 100-meter hurdles at regionals. Lofton had never run the hurdles before high school, and when she first attempted the event, she completed those 100 meters in just over 21 seconds.
