They're probably doing this because they want to play night games. Also, now that the schedule is released, it looks like all the GWC teams are meeting in Farmers Branch one weekend, playing three days of double headers and calling it a conference season...wow. YMCA much?

pfff yeah that's exactly what they're doing...that stinks. The entire conference season and tounrnament is in one location.

SHSU comes to Husky Field next Wednesday for a doublheader

It's almost like two tournaments; one round-robin and one bracket. That is, if they're doing bracket. I don't actually know. It could just be like two round-robin tournaments.

A historical reference...

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's softball team (prior to the SLC) used to compete in the Big South. The conference needed an additional team at the time to be automatic bid eligible and they got A&M-CC to fly out twice. Once for a week of doubleheaders for a conference slate and secondly, for the conference tournament.

With A&M-CC having so many teams in Texas (and surrounding states) to play, it worked out.

That's even weirder than what the GW is doing.

Do you know if those games were in the same location?

This really works out for HBU only having to drive about 5 hours.

Yeah...if driving 10 hrs round trip for your conference home games AND the conference tournament you're supposedly hosting is ideal.

I bet the other team's travel times aren't that bad because they're probably flying in...

The Great West Conference Tourney as held in Farmers Branch to ease travel restrictions on all the Great West Teams. The Huskies have played many many championship games at Oren Good Park and the City of Farmers Branch have been wonderful host. The fields there are excellent...almost as good as Husky field....not quite....and the ground crews do great work to make fields ready. Any tme you play a tournament format you need to have the availability of playing multiple games simultaneously. Oran Good provides this with great local accomodations and easy flight schedules into Dallas. Kudos to Mary Ellen Hall / Steve Moniaci and all the GWC for doing a bang up job to pull this off.
